The Guyana Olympic Association Olympic Day OPEN DOUBLES Badminton opened Friday at the National Gymnasium.
Olympic Day is celebrated world-wide on June 23rd of each year under the pillars “Move, Learn, Discover”.
The Opening Night saw action in the Men Open Doubles, Ladies Open Round Robin Doubles and the Men Open Consolation Doubles Tournament.
National Ladies Junior & Senior Champion Priyanna Ramdhani, who just graduated from Marian Academy and after the ceremony went over to the Badminton courts and placed her name as the Ladies Open Doubles Champion when she and her partner Greer Jackson defeated:
Christina Kumar & Shivannie Persaud: 21-9, 21-8
Jayde DaSilva & Stephanie Sagar: 21-14, 21-5
Ayanna Wickham-Watson & Emily Ramdhani: 21-8, 21-7
Coming in the second place were Shivannie Persaud & Christina Kumar who defeated:
Jayde DaSilva & Stephine Sagar: 21-13, 21-15
Ayanna Wickham-Watson & Emily Ramdhani: 21-16, 22-20
In third place was Ayanna Wickham-Watson & Emily Ramdhani who defeated:
Jayde DaSilva & Stephanie Sagar: 21-3, 21-7
In the Open Men Doubles, National Champion Narayan Ramdhani, who is on vacation from his Badminton Scholarship Programme in Canada, teamed up with Jonathan Mangra to reach the finals after they defeated Dr. Nicholas Waldron & Gokarn Ramdhani: 21-10, 21-8 in the first round and in the start of the first match in the Semi-Finals against Javid Rahaman and Easa Sanichara, they were awarded a walk-over as Javid Rahaman twisted his ankle with the score at 1-0.

Javid Rahaman & Easa Sanichara defeated Sekhar Mallampati & Mahendra Sharma: 21-7, 21-9
Ronald Chang Yuen & Akili Haynes (who also graduated from Marian Academy) defeated Johann Waldron & Isaac Mallampati: 21-10, 21-15
Marlon Chung & Darrell Carpenay defeated upcoming junior stars Matthew Beharry & Vikash Mootoo: 21-6, 21-4
SEMI-FINALS:
Marlon Chung & Darrell Carpenay defeated Ronald Chang Yuen & Akili Haynes: 21-16, 21-15
OPEN MEN DOUBLES CONSALATION TOURNAMENT:
Gokarn Ramdhani & Dr. Nicholas Wadron defeated Johann Waldron & Isaac Mallampati in the Finals: 21-9, 21-10
Other matches played in the consolation rounds were:
Gokarn Ramdhani & Dr. Nicholas Waldron defeated Sekhar Mallampati & Mahendra Sharma: 21-14, 21-7
Johann Waldron & Isaac Mallampati defeated Matthew Beharry & Vikash Mootoo: 21-14, 21-18
The finals were played yesterday in the Open Men Doubles between Narayan Ramdhani & Jonathan Mangra against Marlon Chung & Darrell Carpenay.
The presentation was done after to the respective winners.
