Fifteen year-old Berbician National School’s Cycling Champion, Beyoncé Ross, slipped into a Coma last Wednesday and never woke up.
Beyoncé, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour, was brain dead and on life support and died at 02:22hrs yesterday morning at the Georgetown Pubic Hospital.
According to her mom Yonette Clarke, Beyoncé was getting severe headaches and vomiting but was treated for a stomach infection before an MRI indicated a tumour in the middle of her brain.
Not surprisingly Doctors informed that the surgery could not have been done here and overseas treatment was required.
On Sunday Beyoncé’s vital signs had improved slightly but she was still in Coma and on life support and the family was praying for divine intervention.
Even if the cost for the airfare and surgery was acquired, unless the Rose Hall Town resident and lower Corentyne Secondary School student woke up from her coma she would not have been able to travel.
There was an outpouring of support on social media with prayers and donations for the teenager after she had stopped responding to medical treatment.
It was hoped that she would have regained consciousness and travel overseas with the option of doing the surgery in Trinidad.
Brain Cancer survivor, Cricket Commentator Sean Devers had arranged for her family to get free accommodation for the entire duration of her recovery at the Cascadia Hotel in Trinidad and Mrs Clarke had made contact with the St Clair Medical Centre where Devers did his surgery.
“We are praying for a miracle for her to wake up first of all and then to raise the money for the Surgery but our faith in God is strong and we can’t stop believing that Beyoncé will pull through this,” her mom had stated on Sunday evening.
But sadly that was not to be as Beyoncé failed to reach to finish line in her final and most important race.
Misfortune seems to follow the family since Beyoncé’s elder brother Keith Ross was left crippled in 2015 after being involved in motor vehicle accident.
When contacted for an update yesterday morning Mrs Clarke revealed the bad news but said “God knows best”.
The Funeral is tentatively set for Sunday in Berbice. RIP Beyoncé.
