In a correspondence to Kaieteur Sport, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has noted that they will refuse a US$1,500 funding that has been approved by Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) for their participation in the 2018 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships which will be held in Suriname.
The GABF had set out a very subsidized budget of $10million (US $50,000) for funding after financing many of the provisions needed for Guyana’s male and female teams’ participation in the championships which will be held in Paramaribo.
“For too long GABF has accepted meagre sums of monies from GOA”, noted head of the federation, Nigel Hinds, in the correspondence.
He further highlighted that Barbados gives US$35,000 annually to basketball, a country that has a population of less than 300,000.
“We in the Basketball fraternity have received too little for too long from GOA and we will not accept it anymore,” he reiterated.
