The Regional Health Department of Region One, on May 2, 2018, commissioned a new anesthesia machine for the Mabaruma Regional Hospital.
Regional Health Officer, Dr. Cerdel McWatt, noted that while a few other specialized personnel are expected in the region during the course of the week, the hospital has its first General Surgeon, Dr. Charles Gonsalves, and three theatre nurses, who were trained to assist in improving health care services in the region.
He indicated that with the installation of the new machine, the Regional Health Department will prepare to conduct a surgical outreach where the machine will be used during operations to provide better monitoring of patients during surgery.
Dr. McWatt pointed out that the Health Department is optimistic in enhancing medical services offered throughout the region.
He alluded to the level of representation made for the procurement of the new machine, which was later awarded to Caribbean Medical Supplies Inc.
Regional Chairman, Brentnol Ashley, stated that the Regional Democratic Council remains steadfast and focused on improving health and education delivery across the region.
