Torrential overnight and morning showers yesterday washed out the last day of the Hand-in-Hand Inter County three-day U-19 Cricket match between Essequibo and the National U-17s at Everest and the penultimate day of the game at Lusignan between defending Champions Demerara and Berbice.
At Everest, a soggy ground prevented any play on the final day with Essequibo in their second innings on three without loss with a lead of 149 against the U-17s with the hopes of declaring in the first session yesterday and dismissing them twice.
However, Essequibo made 290 in their first innings and blew away the U-17s for 144 but had to settle for first innings points as the game ended in a draw. E’bo, were beaten by Demerara in the opening round at the same venue.
At Lusignan despite the loss of the second day due to an unplayable ground, Berbice were 102-5 replying Demerara’s 148.
With National U-19 batsman Kevlon Anderson on 16 still and Berbice only 46 runs away with five wickets in hand, once there is play today Berbice are favored to at least get first innings points.
Today’s play at Lusignan is scheduled to commence at 09:30hrs. (Sean Devers)
