(Kaieteur News) – The excitement returns to Westside Golf Course this weekend as the Umami $1,000,000 Cash Golf Challenge gives golfers another opportunity to take aim at the coveted million-dollar hole-in-one prize.
The challenge is expected to be one of several attractions drawing golfers, families and first-time players to Westside Golf Course, which is rapidly developing into a community entertainment and recreation centre for Region Three, offering a growing variety of family-friendly activities, golf competitions and fun tournaments designed to appeal to players of all ages and skill levels.
Westside Golf Course has also been expanding its role beyond traditional golf. Recently, TelcoSigns and Advertising partnered in hosting a successful Under the Stars Drive-In Movie Night, which attracted hundreds of guests for a free night of family entertainment.
A major part of Westside’s mission is making golf more accessible to Guyanese families, particularly those who may never have had an opportunity to try the sport.
Families, children, young people and adults of all ages can experience golf at Westside in a relaxed and welcoming environment before progressing to larger and more traditional golf courses according to GGA president Aleem Hussain.
Through easy-to-follow coaching instruction, a free initial lesson and equipment provided for beginners, Westside is helping remove some of the traditional barriers that have prevented people from taking up golf.
Speaking briefly with Kaieteur Sports, Hussain who is also the Westside Golf Course’ developer, said the overall vision is to create an environment where anyone can walk onto the facility, pick up a golf club and discover the game.
“We want people to understand that golf is not just for experienced players or people who belong to private clubs.”
The former Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) president believed that a family-first approach to golf is usually the best stepping-stone towards potential golfers unlocking additional skills needed to become a pro.
” At the GGA Westside Golf Course, families can come out, have fun, learn the basics and develop their skills in a comfortable environment, while building a family-like camaraderie within the fraternity of Golf,” something Hussain said usually lasts a golfer’s lifetime.
With its beginner-friendly approach, accessible facilities and expanding calendar of activities, Westside Golf Course is helping change the way Guyanese experience golf — making the sport more accessible, more enjoyable and more inclusive for everyone.
