“Every week of the year, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club receives about four letters seeking assistance for cricket related items from Clubs, Schools, NGOs and Players. People seemed to forget that we are just a youth and sports organisation and not a profit oriented one but we work hard every day to assist as much as possible.
This donation of scorebooks would allow us to fulfill the requests of dozens of Cricket Clubs in Berbice and this we are grateful.” Those were the words of Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster as he received over $100,000 worth of Cricket Scorebooks from Odyssey Transportation of Light Street, Bourda, Georgetown.
The Company and its Chief Executive Officer Mr. Barakat over the last seven years has been assisting the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club with Scorebooks which are distributed to less fortunate Cricket Clubs in Berbice under the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Cricket Development Programme.
Over the last twenty years, the Club and its ten cricket teams have assisted over 100 cricket clubs with millions worth of cricket gear including bats, pads, stumps, gloves, scorebooks, wicket keeping gloves, while dozens of Cricketers have also received assistance to further their cricketing careers.
Among those who have received assistance were Shimron Hetmyer, Rajendra Chandrika, Askay Homraj, Loyydel Lewis, Shawn Pereira, Linden Austin, Gudakesh Motie and Plaffiana Millington.
The newly elected Berbice Cricket Board President stated that the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club since its formation in 1990 had attained success though sheer hard work, dedication and it wants other clubs to reach such success as it would allow them to serve youths better.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, he stated is unmatched anywhere in the Caribbean concerning its assistance to rival Clubs.
The better that Clubs perform, Foster stated would result in more youth rejecting Satan and his evil world of Drugs, Crime, Suicide, Alcohol and Tobacco.
With his election to the Presidency of the Berbice Cricket Board, Foster disclosed the requests for assistance has doubted and the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club is struggling to respond to every request.
Clubs are being reformed after being dormant for a period due to the lack of cricket that was being placed in Berbice.
With numerous tournaments being scheduled for 2018, Clubs are preparing for the busiest year in the history of the Berbice Cricket Board.
Special thanks were expanded to Mr. Barakat, Manager Troy Khan and the Staff of Odyssey Transportation Services for the donation of the Scorebooks.
Among the Clubs expected to benefit are Tamarind Root, Kildonan Cricket Club, Mental Hospital, Whim National, Police Sports Club, No. 73, Mount Sinai Cricket Club, Guymine Cricket Club, Rose Hall Canje and Bush Lot Rising Star.
