Aloysius Edwards, a former national youth footballer from Bartica, and nephew of Minister George Norton, was among several persons injured yesterday in a boating accident at Riverview, Essequibo River, opposite the Bartica shore.
Kaieteur News understands that the boat was mainly transporting students from the Three Miles Secondary School.
Sources indicated that the captain lost control of the boat on approaching their destination and slammed into the wharf, causing the passengers to be thrown around the boat.
Sheneal Moshette, a fifth form student preparing for the CXC exams, was also injured.
At least two students have been air-dashed to Georgetown for further medical attention.
Regional Chairman, Gordon Bradford, Regional Executive Officer, Roderick Edinboro, and Regional Education Officer, Akbar Chindu, actively assisted with arrangements.
