A taxi driver who normally takes passengers from Rosignol to Ithaca on the West Bank of Berbice, is lucky to be alive after he was robbed at gunpoint by two men.
According to information two suspects entered the taxi around 19:40 hrs yesterday and requested to be taken to Rosignol.
Shortly after driving off, one of the passengers asked the driver to stop, since he had forgotten his phone.
When the passenger exited the vehicle, the other placed a gun to the driver’s head and demanded that he hand over his valuables.
The robbers relieved the taxi driver of his cellular phone, a gold ring and his wallet, which contained $12,000.
It was reported that police acting on information received went to Number Four Settlement, West Bank Berbice, where they arrested one of the men who was positively identified by the victim.
He is currently in police custody while the other suspect is being sought.
