The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club in its continuing quest to
remain one of Guyana’s leading cricket clubs has officially launched an Under-13 team which is the 9th team for the Club.
Poonai Pharmacy of Rose Hall Town owned by Mr. Poonai Bhigroog is the official sponsor of the team which would be known as the Rose Hall Town Poonai Pharmacy Under-13 Team.
The other teams of the club are: the Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females and Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster said that the launching of the Under-13 team forms another important aspect of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Cricket Development Programme. The main objectives of the Under-13 team are to expose youths to the game at a young age, to act as a feeder programme for the Under-15 team, to get the youths to understand the duties of a sports ambassador.
Special emphasis would also be placed into getting youths to understand the importance of education and personal discipline. The team currently consists of thirty-four (34) players and would be Captained by Jonathan Rampersaud with Mahendra Gopilall as his deputy.
Club Assistant Secretary Rabindranauth Kissoonlall would serve as the Manager with Mark Papannah and Simon Naidu as his deputies.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Foster stated, is quite passionate about the development of each of its members and in maintaining its proud status of being a five-time Guyana Cricket Club of the Year Awardee.
The Under-13 team is just another step by the club to make sure that each of its junior players are exposed to the game at a young age and more importantly understand the club’s formula of success – hard work, discipline, team work, faith in God and belief in self. Foster expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Poonai Bhigroog for coming on board as the team sponsor and hailed him as a long standing friend of the club. Over the years Poonai Pharmacy has co-sponsored numerous activities including Annual Award Ceremony, Rose Hall Town Anniversary Celebration, Charity Programme, Annual Youth Review Magazine, Christmas Village and Mothers Day Programme among others.
He committed the Under-13 team to representing the Poonai Pharmacy brand to the best of its ability and to promote the business. The Poonai Pharmacy Under-13 side for the rest of the year has been mandated by the club’s Management to successfully complete a total of 25 community programmes/activities under the sub-headings of Education, Sports, Culture, Youth Development, Anti-Suicide, Education, Anti-Crime and Charity.
Mr. Bhigroog expressed happiness at being afforded the opportunity to become an official sponsor of a club that he greatly respects and admires. The impact of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club on the township has been widespread and Poonai stated that his sponsorship would allow youths to achieve their full potential on and off the field.
The proud sponsor stated that he was committed to a long term relationship as he was confident that the team would represent his brand well.
