Guyanese have no idea what a dump UG is

Dear Editor,
I have read so many of Freddie’s columns that although I seldom read letters to the newspaper, I quickly spotted from the title of the letter: ‘UG and the failed leadership of Granger and Nagamootoo’, that this looks like another of Freddie’s handiwork. I will make this brief.
There is a saying: a picture is worth a thousand words. Freddie, go take out pictures of the classrooms, toilets, dorms at UG and publish them in the papers. What percentage of the population do you think can correlate the extravagant salary and top heavy leadership to what obtains at UG? The overwhelming majority of Guyanese have no idea that UG is a dump – mediocre academic standards, outdated teaching methodologies, unsanitary bathrooms, medieval class room furnishings, etc. An academic environment that makes it almost impossible for even the most gifted minds to blossom and grow. Guyanese have to go to overseas universities to show how unbelievably gifted many are.
From British colonialism, Burnham’s ‘we will survive’, Jagdeo Baba and his band of forty thieves, to the straw that surely has broken the camel’s back – not Granger ( I expected nothing great from him, and he seems hell bent on not disappointing me), but Nagamoottoo – maybe the PPP leadership was telling the truth for a change when they claimed that he was sidelined not because he was honorable and was the odd man out among a set of rogues, but rather that he wanted to be Ali Baba. That he would feed off of Guyanese desire to see an end to race politics to secure power is an unbelievable wrap up to a career that saw him among other achievements, humble Hasyln Parris in a debate in 1988. Shame on you Nagamootoo! And, hey Freddie, I have another saying for you: ‘you can’t flog a dead horse’. You were correct: it’s the people, stupid!
