Dear Editor,
I would like to remain anonymous as I point out some of the pitfalls of our beautiful country and why I believe we may not see a brighter future for our country should we maintain steady on our current course.
Politics in Guyana as it is with many countries especially third world countries is like a cat and a ball where one government had the ball and did what they wanted to with it, while a new government has the ball and decides to do the same. No one has stopped to put the state first or the country first.
It’s a matter of what you did when you were in power now it’s my turn. I know many have mentioned and will continue to mention the increase the government secretly gave themselves within the first 100 days of being in power.
I don’t have a problem with it because that’s the way poor minded people think; what I have a problem with is Guyanese’s laid-back reaction to such and many more horrendous actions of both past and present governments. It is as if some internal fear is driving us to accept inequality, inhumanity, injustice and anything else you can throw at us. Why are we so laid-back? Why do we accept whatever people feed us with?
Where is our dignity and where is our pride? Very few governments care for their people. Guyana is one of those countries where the government doesn’t care about the people. We need new leaders with new and bold ideas to reshape Guyana, but in order to do this we need selfless people in offices and we need to unite.
Before I leave I would like to challenge the GOVERNMENT OF GUYANA. Print a list of the salaries of all the MP’s and Ministers and other government employees for all the country to know what you take home from our taxes.
Compare it with 1st world countries then ask yourself if we can continue on our course of development when monies are being used to indulge lavish life styles instead of creating more jobs and building industries. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If everyone has a balanced salary scale it means monies can be left over to hire more works-thus creating more jobs, circulating more monies and strengthening our economy.
