A 52-year-old labourer of Grant 1651 Crabwood Creek reportedly went missing last Saturday during a fishing trip with his friends.
The father of two left his home in the company of three other friends for a day out fishing in the Corentyne waters but never returned home. Karamchand Parbudyal commonly called “Dar” is now feared dead and his friends have been detained.
A visit to Crabwood Creek led this publication to the man’s daughter, who disclosed that she received a call from her mother at just around 14:30 hrs on Saturday, informing her that her father had not returned home.
According to Tanuja Parbudyal, “my mother call me and she seh that daddy nah come back wid dem man and that how dem man seh dem nah find am”.
She explained that the men were at her father’s house while she was on the call with her mother and as such she requested to speak with one of the men.
“One ah dem who me talk to seh how dem leff he ah stand up and dem reverse the boat and engine and dem ah throw the line and when dem leff with like three or four more hooks to throw out, he seh that when dem raise dem head and watch back dem nah see he,” she stated.
The young woman disclosed that she was told by the men that he was standing in water “waist high” and a stone’s throw away from the boat, but it seemed rather strange that her father disappeared into the water without a trace.
She said her father was an excellent swimmer and diver and surmised “I don’t think it’s possible that he can drown in that set ah water, I don’t believe”.
The daughter further related that about an hour after hearing of the incident from her mother and the men, she ventured to the area in the company of relatives, neighbours and friends in search of her missing father, but turned up empty handed after close to seven hours of searching.
She said that he was wearing a brown pants, black shirt, a white hat and flip flops. Police, she disclosed, found his flip flops near the fishing boat and his shirt in the boat.
Kaieteur News also understands that the three men who were with Karamchand Parbudyal are close friends of his and well known to the family.
They were reportedly consuming alcohol during the fishing trip. The three men, who are also fishermen by profession, have been held for questioning. The fishing vessel is said to be owned by one of the individuals in custody.
