The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority’s timely cognizance

As the nation recovers from shock at the tragic loss of one of its young and more experienced pilots, Captain Collin Martin, who met his sudden demise when the Britten-Normandy Islander plane he was flying crashed at Eteringbang close to Guyana’s western border near Venezuela on July 25, 2017, I wish to commend the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for taking cognizance to one of my recent articles regarding safety and service lapses by an International Airline operating out of Guyana.
The GCAA Officer, who contacted me a few days ago, for relevant details to support his investigation, was extremely polite and professional. He knows himself, and I would like to publicly commend him and the GCAA for expeditiously addressing the highlighted matter.
My letters cogently address prevailing issues; issues that most people shy away from publicly addressing but would resort to murmur over privately, or wash aside with bottles of Banks or El Dorado. The issues I highlight are invariably based on verifiable facts that can withstand contest.
Within the past month, the GCAA is the second of two important national entities that reacted and took effective action on matters of public concern following missives I posted via this medium. These are small but encouraging indicators that not everyone who occupies positions, or go to work daily, sit on their hands doing precious little and oblivious of public concerns. I trust that The GCAA’s investigation will lead to improved services and safety for both international as well as domestic air transportation.
