Twenty-five-year-old Seon Nickle, of Lot 65 Savannah Park, New Amsterdam, Berbice, yesterday made an appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The porkknocker denied the charge which alleged that on May 21, last, at First Avenue Bartica, he had in his possession 1261 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing that no special reason was outlined by him, and the prevalence and penalty the charge attracts.
The Prosecutor went on to tell the court that the defendant when arrested gave the police a caution statement accepting ownership of the marijuana.
Prosecutor Moore went on to tell the court that another person was charged in connection to the same marijuana which was found in a haversack and was placed on $200,000 bail.
The prosecution told the court that the first accused who was charged for the offence told the court that Nickle provided the marijuana. Moore added that the defendant will be charged separately for the charge.
When the Chief Magistrate inquired why both defendants will be tried separately for the same offense, the prosecutor told the court that Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) advised that Nickle be charged for the same offence and that the matter should be tried separately.
The magistrate in return granted bail to the defendant in the sum of $200,000 citing that someone else was charge for the same offense.
The defendant will make his next court appearance on July 21 for statements.
