Dear Editor,
The Government of Guyana should waive the VAT on education tuition with immediate effect. With over fifty percent failures at the 2017 National Grade Six Assessment exam we must recognize that our education system is in a critical condition. This is not a time to be taxing children’s education. This tax is placing additional burdens on hard working parents who seek a better future for their children. It is downright shameful for the Government to be paying residential rentals of five hundred thousand per month for Ministers while children’s education is been taxed. As the 2017/18 school term is around the corner many parents will have to dig deep into their pockets to pay school fees. I call on the APNU/AFC Government to waive the taxes before the commencement of the new term.
