Wins for Monedderlust and Corriverton Links
On the West side of Berbice on Sunday last, Monedderlust FC engaged Hopetown United Rangers FC in the latest action in the GFF / BFA NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power – U17 League at the #5 Ground.
The action got underway in favourable conditions at #5 Ground to see Monedderlust overcoming a spirited Hopetown United Rangers team by three (3) goals to nil.
Monedderlust secured a 1 – nil position at half time, with Daniel La Rose scoring in the 36th minute to give them the early advantage.
It was not until the 70th min that Brentnol Frank extended the lead when he picked up a loose ball from a corner kick scrimmage to place a left foot shot in the back of the opponent’s net.
Goal #3, an own goal, resulting from an attempted clearance by Hopetown’s defender, Kevin Wilson, that found the back of the net in his own goal.
Because of prevailing slushy ground conditions the 2nd match of the proposed double header, Paradise Invaders FC versus Mahaicony Thunder Hawks FC was not played and has since been rescheduled for Saturday 8th July at 15:30hrs at the Paradise ground.
Over on the East side, Corriverton Links FC opposed Young Strikers FC in a match that was originally fixed for the Skeldon CDC Ground but was shifted to the Burnham Park Ground in New Amsterdam, due to unavailability of the Skeldon CDC.
In commanding fashion the lads from the Upper Corentyne team, Corriverton Links, demolished their hapless but spirited opponents from the Central Corentyne area team, Young Strikers, by 5 goals to 1.
A pressured Young Strikers defender opened the scoring in the 3rd min when he committed a dreadful defence error, brought on by the forceful attack of Cyrus Nicholson, to put the ball into his own net. Oshea Leitch then scored in the 25th minute to even the score for Young Strikers.
Goal # 3 scored by Ryan Grimes in the 31st minute saw it to 2 – 1 in favour of Corriverton Links at half time.
