– Nabbed after revisiting the scene
A 24-year-old driver was nabbed on Saturday afternoon when he revisited an accident scene at Second Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The driver, who has been identified as Ryan Seecharran of Lot 361 Herstelling reportedly, drove over Kalicharran Goordial’s head and killed him around 15:00hrs on Saturday.
The 49-year-old victim was said to have been intoxicated and was lying on the roadway when he met his demise.
Reports are that after killing Goordial, the driver drove to a wash bay. It was when he was returning home that an eyewitness pointed him out to traffic ranks at the scene. He was nabbed and taken to the Providence Police Station where his vehicle, PVV 4911 was impounded.
The Guyana Police Force in a release said that Goordial, of Creek Dam, Herstelling was heavily under the influence of alcohol and was lying in the centre of a cross street with his head about five feet from the edge of the road.
An eyewitness reported that the driver was proceeding east along the centre of the street when he suddenly turned left (north) and drove over the victim’s head.
When the suspect observed what had happened, he reportedly reversed on the victim’s head and fled the scene.
The dead man’s sister, Jasmattie Goordial, said that she was heading home around 16:00hrs when she noticed a crowd on the street.
She explained that when she got out of the vehicle to enquire what had happened, she noticed that it was her sibling who had been killed.
The woman is annoyed with the fact that the driver did not render assistance but instead, drove away—leaving her brother there.
“It not like he doesn’t know my brother. We are all from the same village and my brother did work for them so he knew who it was that he killed,” the woman noted.
She said that she was informed that the driver went to wash off the blood from his car and was heading back home when an eyewitness to the accident pointed him out to the police ranks that were present at the scene.
Goordial admitted that her brother did drink. He lived with his siblings in Herstelling. The deceased had no wife or children.
