…case still to be heard– CCPA
The case involving a nine-year-old who was reportedly sodomised with a mop stick over missing jewelry has not been stalled.
In fact, Head of Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA), Ann Greene, has said that there is a system leading to a court appearance.
At present, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the agency are engaged in this matter and the victim has already been interviewed on the subject.
According to information received, the child’s mother left him and his seven-year-old sister in the care of her former employer and went to work in the interior.
Upon her return, she was informed that the woman and her husband abused the boy when they discovered that one of their electronic devices (Tablet) and a piece of gold jewelry were missing. Reports are that the child had buried the jewel and sold the Tablet for $500.
The child was reportedly beaten and sodomised with a mop.
Kaieteur News was informed that when the child was first taken to the police, he did not report about the sodomy. A man and a woman were instead charged for assaulting him.
It was after the couple was charged that the little boy reported that he had been sodomised. CCPA took the child’s statement and the matter is engaging the authority’s attention.
Greene said that in these cases, there is a one-stop shop where children are questioned one time so that they do not have to tell their story again because it destroys them.
Such was done in this case. However, the Head of the CCPA is annoyed that the child is being made to relive his experience to different media outlets.
If this continues, the agency may have to take serious action to protect the child.
