Dear Editor,
It would seem that the adult son of a wealthy businessman is above the law with the presumptuous selling of alcoholic beverages in unlicensed premises in his home village Region Two. Serious public concerns have been raised regarding the illegal operations which can well be described as a nuisance to the neighbourhood. Despite complaints having been made officially to the police in the district and the Customs & Excise Department at Anna Regina, it was just useless with only further aggravation to the already ugly situation.
From this reaction, the question is being asked whether there are no proper persons in this district to protect the interest of the state. This illegal business premises is attracting more customers since it does not have to pay any licensing fees nor satisfy certain compulsory requirements, as compared to legitimate ones on whom charges to operate were increased by 100% in this year’s budget. There is total disrespect for worshippers who attend a nearby mosque on a daily basis and several Hindus at their mandir. They are being disrupted with loud music and the use of expletives. As the saying goes “Money can do wonders” but is a slap in the face of the Government for such an illegality to continue unabated with detrimental effects to the nearby residents in an unfair situation when they deserve better to a comfortable living.

(Kaieteur News) – I like it. More money for Guyanese workers. Not private sector minimum wage workers, regrettably.
