The actions of a 45-year-old carpenter prove that alcohol does not do well with everyone.
Egbert Daniels of Mabaruma, North West District appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday and was slapped with seven charges in relation to things he did while he was under the influence of alcohol.

Particulars of the first charge against Daniels alleged that on May 4, at Mabaruma Settlement, he broke into the dwelling house of Kenneth Derk and stole $3,800 property of Derk.
He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a fine of $15,000 with an alternative of two weeks imprisonment. It was further alleged that on May 1, at Barima, he threw a missile to the annoyance of Judy Daniels. To this charge, Daniels also pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500 also with an alternative of two weeks in jail.
The fisherman admitted that on May 1, he maliciously damaged four window panes valued at $12,000 belonging to Daniels. On this charge, he was ordered to pay $12,000 to the victim or in default serve four weeks in prison.
The man was also charged for calling Daniels a name, other than her own name, with intent to insult or annoy her. He pleaded not guilty. And he also pleaded not guilty to assaulting Winston Allen and was released on $5,000 bail.
Before transferring the matters to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court, she warned him to desist from using alcohol pending the completion of the trial.
She also informed him that if he fails to adhere to the court’s order he will be arrested and placed on remand at the Camp Street prison.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that Egbert Daniels and the victims are known to each other since they reside in the same neighbourhood.
The prosecutor said that on May 1, Egbert Daniels was under the influence of alcohol when he began using expletives. According to the prosecutor, “(Egbert) was spoken to by Winston Allen and as a result he dealt the man a cuff to his face. (Egbert) was taken to the side of the house by Judy Daniels who told him to calm down himself but he continued to behave in the said manner.”
Prosecutor Moore further told the court that Egbert Daniels in a fit of rage threw a piece of stick at the window panes belonging to Judy Daniels which resulted in them being shattered.
On May 4 at around 21:10hrs, Deon Santiage, Doreen James and Ignatius Santiago were left in care of a house owned by Kenneth Derk. The court was told that the occupants were asleep when they were awakened by a loud noise, but upon checking they saw nothing.
“(The occupants) noticed that the windows were broken. They checked and saw a pair of black long boots, which they knew belonged to Egbert Daniels,” Prosecutor Moore disclosed.
The matter was reported and investigations were carried out which led to the arrest of Egbert Daniels, who Prosecutor Moore said confessed to breaking into the home and stealing the monies.
He was given two weeks to pay the fines.
