V Net Communications of Delph Street, Campbellville has rewarded all-rounder Keemo Paul on his recent accomplishment as a first class cricketer.
Paul, who was the vice captain of the victorious West Indies U19 World Cup team, made his first class debut for the Guyana Jaguars against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the recently concluded WICB Professional Cricket League. He then went on to represent the Jaguars in the final two matches, taking a match haul of 9-63 against the Windward Islands Volcanoes which earned him the man-of-the-match. Jaguars under Leon Johnson won their third consecutive title.
Chief Executive Officer of the V Net Communications Safraz Sheriffudeen presented a commemorative plaque to Paul at a simple ceremony held at his office on Monday.
Sheriffudeen congratulated Paul on his success so far and urged him to remain committed to the game. “We always knew you have the ability to play the game at the highest level and now that your fist class career has commenced we want to assure you that we at V Net Communications will always be supportive,” he added.
“We all know that Keemo has already achieved a lot in his young career, winning titles with our national teams and has been a member of the successful West Indies U19 World Cup team.”
Sheriffudeen, who represented Wakenaam at the U19 level, informed that he has been following Paul’s career from the inception and wished him continued success. “Every one of these achievements is another milestone reached and this presentation is in recognition of one such goal, the debut of his first class career,” he said.
Also present at the function was Secretary of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee Nazeer Mohamed who congratulated Paul on his recent achievement adding that this will help to motivate the young cricketers on the island. He expressed gratitude to Sheriffudeen.
Paul plays for Noitgedacht Sports Club in Wakenaam and Demerara Cricket Club and thanked the entity and said it had been a pleasure to play for Guyana at the first class level. “The support I have got from V Net Communications over the years has been tremendous and its means a lot to me. I will continue to put my best foot forward and try to make my supporters including those from Wakenaam and Saxacalli where I was born, happy.
Paul, 19, said that he has learnt a lot playing in the senior team. “I gained a lot of knowledge from the senior players especially Leon Johnson.
Playing at the first class level can be challenging so it’s important for me to be consistent and keep my place in the team,” he posited. (Zaheer Mohamed)
