On May 5, there will be no monument in the Region 6 celebrations

It must be seen as a colossal upset (as huge as the monument itself) that a monument which should have been completed and ready in time for May 5 Arrival Day festivities in honour of Indian Arrival to Guyana, will no longer be the hallmark of Region 6 celebrations (‘Questions raised over contractor of $97M collapsed monument’ KN Sunday, April 30 2017).
From the article it is discerned the contracting company is from the mining town of Linden. If this is so the company should be put on notice that no alternative will be accepted in getting this project satisfactorily completed within a reasonable time frame. The setback meted out to the Region cannot be easily dismissed, especially as this year marks the Centennial of the Abolition of Indian indentureship in Guyana.
