Nathan Heyliger was yesterday freed on a causing death by dangerous driving charge, whereby it was alleged that his actions resulted in the death of a father of eight in an accident on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
It was alleged that on September 11, 2016 on the Marudi Public Road, he drove a motor lorry in a manner dangerous to the public causing the death of Carl Dundas.
Yesterday Magistrate Judy Latchman dismissed the charge against Heyliger, 27, of Lot 12 Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, because the evidence led by the prosecution was insufficient to prove the elements of the offence.
According to reports, Dundas and Heyliger were workmates who operated a truck for a dredge owner in the interior. Based on reports, Dundas and his wife Rona were occupants in the vehicle Heyliger was driving when he collided with a parked truck that was reportedly seized from BaiShanLin Company, by officials of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). They were reportedly leaving Yarrowkabra, after participating in Amerindian Heritage Celebration. Based on reports, Dundas was seated in the front passenger seat. Both Dundas and his wife received injuries and were rushed to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital. Dundas succumbed to his injuries a few days after.
