A 42-year-old Police Constable was yesterday released on $30,000 bail by Chief Magistrate
Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after being slapped with two fraud related charges.
Constable David Singh of Lot 1246 Eccles New Housing Scheme, who is attached to the Tactical Service Unit, denied the first charge which alleged that on January 26, at Penny Lane, South Ruimveldt Garden, Georgetown with intent to defraud, he falsely pretended that he would pay $6,000 per day for 40 days to use hire car PVV 9900 from Troy Jacobs, knowing his claim to be false.
It was further alleged that between February 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, having received $400,000 on the account of Latchman Mohabir from Rajindra Harrychan, he fraudulently converted the monies to his own use and benefit.
Singh pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him by the Magistrate.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Patrice Henry who asked that his client be released on his own recognizance. The lawyer further disclosed that both virtual complainants in the matter have been fully reimbursed.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant and told the court that Singh is still performing duties in the Guyana Police Force.
Singh was granted $15,000 bail on each charge and will make his next court appearance on April, 21.
