…after package thrown over prison fence
Three prison officers attached to the New Amsterdam Prison were on Tuesday afternoon arrested by the hierarchy of the institution and handed over to the police under suspicion of being involved in corruption.
According to reports around 14:00 hrs persons in and around of the Penitentiary, including, guards noticed something being thrown over the fence of the prison.
An alarm was raised and checks were made in the area, but nothing was found. However the prison officers who were supposed to be working in the specific area in which the package was thrown were questioned and could not give any clear indication about the whereabouts of the package.
The men were taken into custody. The police were informed and a team of officers led by a senior officer responded immediately and searched the prison, but the package was not found. The prison officers were handed over to the police and taken to the Central Police Station and were being grilled.
