Dear Editor,
Throughout the years of the Guyana Police Force’s existence, since I can recall, I am now obliged to commend these men and women of this noble profession for the professional manner in which they speak to the public and also conduct themselves while in the public domain. The feelings and looks of concerns with ones’ interest whilst maintaining law and order is now a hallmark of the Guyana Police Force, and commendable
However, there is the need for the general public to further assist the Guyana Police Force specifically the members of the Traffic Department since very often we are saddened by the report of a life being loss through the neglect that some will argue to be deliberate; it is most important to realize the precious gift a life that was lost. Being a frequent road user, I have observed on numerous occasions the way pedestrians use their crossing whether at traffic lights or elsewhere. I refer to an instance recently among others where I saw a school child who stood no more than ten feet from a pedestrian crossing desirous of crossing the road but his intentions were only known when he ran across the road through the busy traffic.
Furthermore, I have seen cyclist using the pedestrian’s crossing as their crossing.
It is the writers’ view that the Guyana Police Force has been working effortlessly to reduce the road carnage and it is now the work of every civilian citizen of this beautiful country to continue what we have learnt from the numerous traffic outreaches and workshops hosted by the Guyana Police Force Traffic Department and the Road Safety Council throughout time.
Every parent must preach to their child the correct way of using the road, every motorist must adhere to the five Cs, every cyclist must conform to the safety measures given to them through the laws and not to infringe on those of others.
The Bible outlines that love gives in order to save the loss. We may not all be Christians but we all cry, we all bleed, we all feel pain, we are all answerable to our creator whenever the day comes. Let us be ambassadors of Love not only in our homes, or businesses but also on our road, as we enjoy this journey of life
