Dear Editor,
Is seems to be a ‘Friday Thing’ with the Council whenever the fantastic four are in trouble, to see them erect a large white tent in the Compound at City Hall and have meetings with staff, vendors etc. Earlier when the new government took up office, City Hall was in celebratory mood for well over one year plus, and then came the Local Government Elections, and the tempo continued with pomp and ceremony nonstop. At every public meeting the patriotic songs were heard on the loud speakers for staff members and passers-by to be serenaded.
What was amazing is that recent staff members were again asked to meet at the City Hall compound, under the guise of a salary increase. But mind you; there wasn’t any patriotic songs played, but this time around it was songs from our famous late brother Bob Marley (‘Every little thing is going to be alright’). After the usual rhetoric they were then asked to be the foot soldiers for the infamous parking meters. So they would be able to enjoy the salary increase from the parking meters (whenever that is).
Then came another Friday, this time the vendors were called in to congregate under this big white tent at City Hall. But this time the vendors were ready for the fantastic four; more so Pat and Roy. They told them that under no circumstances are they going to accept their lies, their bullyism. One man even told ‘King Roy’ about his Monarchy. Two things to note:
Of late, salaries were increased without the knowledge of the entire Council, for a few big wigs officers, of course by the fantastic four. The Human Resource Officer should be called in to answer to this. Why just a selected few?
Then, the constables working with the Parking Meter were not paid their $78,000.00 since December, even though they were allegedly told that same was settled by the contractor. Ironically they were told not to speak with the media. Something has got to be amiss here. If one is to have a one and one with the municipal staff one would be surprised to hear their disgust with the management of the City Council. It is time that the Minister of Communities and the Government do something about that place. Be sure that neither the staff nor the vendors are prepared to sit back and take the Council’s bullyism any longer. These are changing times!
