Ruco McIntyre, the man who broke out of the Camp Street Prison two Sundays ago, has been
jailed for 12 months.
He appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he told the court that he made the dash for freedom because he was in dire need of seeing his young son.
McIntyre pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on February 12, at Camp Street, while on remand for a criminal charge of simple larceny, he escaped from the Camp Street prison.
According to prison sources, McIntyre had just returned from church at around noon on the day in question. The source related that McIntyre, who had been on remand pending trial for larceny of a cell phone, scaled the fence of the prison facing Bent Street and ran.
A police rank was alerted and give chase after the 27-year-old man, who was apprehended along D’Urban Street and escorted back to the penitentiary.
