Feb 12, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter purportedly written by one Clinton Conway “Many sections of the police force have performed admirably,”’ KN, February 10, 2017, where he makes the assertion that the “disbanded Police Strategic Management Unit” designed and implemented the mission statement of the Guyana Police Force.
I wish to make it quite clear that the Strategic Management Department which I headed from May 2, 2013 until its closure in May 2016 at no time designed or implemented any such document.
Conway speaks from the lofty position of ignorance as he pontificates as it was never the role of the SMD to be implementers of any initiative the department might have undertaken.
However I am prepared to accept that since he places himself as the expert on police matters he might be privy to much more information than I, since it was a very senior officer who was known to Conway that engaged in the reckless and dangerous practice of assigning certain undisclosed tasks to a particular member of the SMD.
I would appreciate similar prominence of this clarification.
Patrick E. Mentore
Former Head,
Strategic Management Department
