A 41-year-old porter attached to a public health institution in Berbice was yesterday remanded to prison after being accused of sexually molesting his two daughters.
The man appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rondell Weaver to face a charge of sexual activity with a family member. He was charged separately for allegedly raping his 13- and 12-year-old daughters.
The accused, who was unrepresented, stood in the docks with a faint look upon his face as the charges were read to him. Bail was refused and the man is to make his next court appearance on February 28.
According to the facts of the case, the man, who had his daughters staying with him, would normally give the girls medication claiming it was “B complex tablets and cod liver oil tablets”. The tablets would normally put the girls to sleep shortly after, it is then that he allegedly followed through on his plan to commit the act. It is alleged that he engaged in sexual penetration with the minors while they resided with him at his home in New Amsterdam.
After the older girl spoke out about the incident, a report was made to the Central Police Station and the teenager was immediately taken for a medical examination.
The father was subsequently placed under arrest.
