Dear Editor,
I want to thank your reporter for the coverage about a horse that was cruelly abused; however, I would like to clarify a few mistakes that were made in the article:
1: Friday afternoon, the Station Corporal immediately sent Officer McGarrell to assist us when I went to Ruimveldt Police Station to make a report. The kind officer was shocked at what he saw and wanted to talk with the owner, however, he did not want to go into the area alone, so he called for backup. It was the backup that arrived much later.
2: Editor, at no time did I say the GSPCA needed to have a system in place to euthanize animals by lethal injection nor did I say that suffering animals should be administered painkillers before they are put to death.
3: The Police Officers did make an effort to find the owner.
Please ensure the public is apprised of these corrections.
Recommendations:
I would like to say to the public, if you see cruelty to animals, please do not turn a blind eye, speak up for our voiceless friends, call the GSPCA at 226-4237, the Police or an animal activist. I would kindly suggest the GSPCA make available a cell phone number for people to text them at.
