Berbice has thrown their support behind the Kennard Memorial Turf Club for the staging of its XMAS race meet.
Proprietor of the entity Rohan Booj-Raj presented a trophy and an undisclosed sum of cash for the feature B and Lower event to KMTC Chairman Cecil Kennard at his office in Brickdam yesterday.
Mr. Booj-Raj said that he presented the trophy in memory of his late son Rovin Booj-Raj who passed away on December 26, 2005. He added that he is happy to support the event and wished the jockeys well.
Chairman of the KMTC Cecil Kennard thanked Booj-Raj and family for his support and spoke about the importance of sponsorship in sports. He added that Entries will be closed on Sunday and turfites can expect an action packed day since the track is in good shape.
The event will be held on December 26 at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne. The winner of the B and Lower race which covers a distance of 9 furs will take home a trophy and $1,200,000, the runner up $600,000, third place $300,000, fourth place $150,000 and fifth $128,000.
The races will be run under the rules of the KMTC and owners of horses must pay at least $5,000 for each horse at the time of entry.
