Simeon Vibert Forde, yesterday, made an appearance before Magistrate Leslie Benjamin to answer to the charge of assault and threatening behaviour.
The charge read that on November 29, last, at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he assaulted his wife, Simone Forde, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
The defendant, a security guard, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Leslie Benjamin at a sitting of the Night Court in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant was represented by Attorney Paul Fung-a-fat who told the court that his client is 33 years old and a security guard attach to the US embassy and since the matter he has removed from his matrimonial home and is in the process of a divorce.
Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh, did not object to bail but asked that the defendant and the virtual complainant be placed on a bond to keep the peace until the completion of the trial.
According to the facts, on the day in question the Virtual Complainant was at home at Lot 1792 Humming Bird Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, in the company of a friend when the defendant came home and told the friend to leave.
After the friend left the house, an argument ensued and as a result the defendant pushed the VC to the floor and dealt her several punches to her face and later threatened to kill her with a kitchen knife.
Afraid for her life, the Virtual Complainant made a report to the North Ruimveldt Police Outpost and the defendant was arrested and charged for the present offence.
The defendant was placed on $20,000 bail for assault causing actual bodily harm and $5,000 bail for threatening behaviour. He will make his next court appearance on December15.
