MV Logos Hope, the ship known as the world’s largest floating book fair, is slated to dock at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC) wharf shortly before Christmas. The ship will be opened to the public
from December 22 to January 8 to allow visitors the opportunity to meet international crewmembers and share different cultural experiences.
Visiting more than 100 ports around the world since 2009, Logos Hope crewmembers are involved in various practical aid projects, including bringing water purifiers, building projects, book donations, and free of charge eye tests and eye glasses.
The 400 crewmembers on the ship come from 60 diverse countries and cultures. Despite their differences, they work together with a common goal: sharing love and care through social service projects and good literature.
In their upcoming visit, the Logos Hope team will continue to serve the local community in Guyana bringing knowledge, help and hope.
Sharing good literature to people is another key facet of the ship’s purpose. Logos Hope offers an expanded selection of over 5,000 titles at affordable prices. They cover a range of subjects including science, sports, hobbies, and family life. With children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and more, the book fair is something the whole family can enjoy. Additionally, the rest of the Visitor Experience deck is also open for the public to explore. From the Welcome Area, which introduces the vessel through a short movie and interactive displays, to the International Café, which has ice cream, drinks and snacks for sale, there is sure to be something for everyone.
MV Logos Hope is operated by GBA Ships e.V., an international, charitable organisation registered in Germany. In almost 40 years of service, the organisation has welcomed 45 million visitors up the gangways in over 150 countries and territories around the world.
Entrance fee for the ship is $100 per person. Adults 65 and over enter for free. Children under 12 years old enter for free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
“We are looking forward to the visit to Georgetown. We believe books change lives, and we are excited for the opportunity to welcome many on board to meet our international crew and staff,” said Captain Chris Hughes.
Further,” We’re already anticipating being able to share our life stories, as well as the experience of the book fair and International Café, with many who will come and visit. Welcome on board”, he said.
MV Logos Hope docked in Guyana in November 2009 as many would still remember the last visit, where over 40,000 visitors were welcomed up the gangways during their 20-day stay. The books are promised to be at affordable prices.
