Following the discovery of a gun tucked away in a car which was discovered by a sniffer dog name
‘Ace’ after he was able to lead ranks to the left door panel of a car, a taxi driver was yesterday remanded to prison for the illegal arms and ammunition find.
The man, who was represented by Attorney George Thomas, refuted claims that it was the sniffer dog that found the gun and ammunition in the car.
Leroy Marshall, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to three charges one of which read that on November 16, last, at Georgetown, he had in his possession one gram of cannabis.
The second charge read that on the same day in question he had in his possession five live .38 ammunition when he was not the holder of a firearm license enforced at the time.
Lastly, it was alleged that on the same day in question he had a .38 revolver when he was not the holder of a firearm license.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all three charges when they were read to him by the Magistrate.
Attorney George Thomas told the court that his client who is 47 years old resides at Tuschen, East Bank Demerara and is the father of two.
His attorney said that his client was stopped and searched by police. A search was also conducted on two other passengers and his client was told to lodge his vehicle at the Police Station and hand over the bag to the police.
The following day his client was contacted and informed that the gun and ammunition were discovered in his car.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that the firearm was found in the presence of the defendant, who was the driver of the car
The father of two was remanded and will make his next court appearance on December 15.
