Dear Editor,
Please permit me a space in your newspapers to call on GRA and any other relevant government agencies to inform the nation of the validity or otherwise of the Guyana driver’s licence as an identification document. It is troubling to see staff of financial institutions turned down transactions involving huge cash because a customer could only present the driver’s licence, only for the customer to be robbed of the cash after stepping out of the banking hall. The anxiety of getting cash to the bank is enough for anyone; the banks should not add to it. These institutions insist on the presentation of one’s current passport or the national ID card. These documents however, do not carry two vital details that the driver’s licence has; the address and the TIN. It will be a tremendous service to the citizens of this nation if the concerned agencies and authorities could make public the official position of this document.

(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Government, Guyanese leaders, and the Guyanese people had better come quickly to their senses about Surinam.
