Dear Editor,
Over the past year we have had to work under extremely poor leadership at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). It had demotivated us and even affected how patients were managed. We were fearful for the corporation and our patients.
When the Board of Directors was sworn in, it gave us hope. Under the leadership of Dr Hanoman, the board of directors kept meetings with all levels of staff and listened to our concerns. Plans were put in place, but there seemed to be a rift between the acting CEO and the board and tasks were not carried out. Luckily for us the board of directors persevered and managed to get tasks done albeit at a slower rate.
Things are slowly coming back to normal. Medication and equipment shortages are now minimised. The rift that was being created between doctors and nurses is slowly disappearing. Concerns aired by staff are being addressed more fairly. We are beginning to see the tide turning and positive developments are now occurring again at GPHC.
These positive developments could not have been possible without the committed management shown by the Board of Directors at GPHC. We thank the Chairman and his team for being there for us. We hope that a change in leadership does not come soon again. We have seen what the previous changes did to the Corporation and wish to not experience it again.
Staff Member, GPHC
