Dear Editor,
I say that vision is a virtue, the more the better. When will administrators behave like real leaders? We read in the papers of one Abiola Gomes, 38 a “Crop Extension Officer” who died on Tuesday 27th as a result of an accident on the Linden Soesdyke Highway. We further learnt that the spot where the car she was in toppled was the very same spot where two other fatal accidents occurred earlier in the year that claimed the lives of two persons. According to the article, Senior Superintendent Brutus of Region 10 said that he had spoken to the REO of Region 10 about having repairs done to that dangerous section of the road but was told that the road is under the Ministry of Infrastructure and not the Region. Now there is a critical situation that is life threatening to all. There is impending danger every single day as traffic flows to and fro.
The police commander in the Region took the time to lodge a report as is the proper thing to do; what is so hard in taking up that report with the relevant authority which I am sure the R.E.O is familiar with also. Come on, this situation is a priority, demands urgency, why tarry when death lurks in the waiting? Be proactive; this is what is expected from exemplary leadership. Understand that there are some things that people in command ought to do by virtue of being placed there as of duty. Get on the floor and have it done instead of some sort of Ivory Tower managing and haggling about range of jurisdiction. That is all mambo jumbo, just not the way in which administrators are expected to serve and lead.
