Dear Editor,
This is a leter sent to the Brazilian Ambassador to Guyana. We kindly ask that you reproduce it in your newspaper. The Amerindian Action Movement of Guyana (TAAMOG) is kindly seeking Brazilian medical treatment for Thelma Rebeiro who is currently a patient at the Lethem hospital for approximately four (4) months since her transferral from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and has never regained consciousness to this day. Thelma Rebeiro, age 48 years old is from the Macushi village of Shulinab, South -Central Rupununi, Region 9 (upper Takatu-upper Essequibo). Thelma Rebeiro had two (2) surgeries for gallstones in April, 2016.
The first surgery was done by a medical outreach team to the Rupununi in April, 2016 which was not successful, due to the fact that the Lethem Hospital does not have the necessary equipments. Thelma Rebeiro was then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital on April, 2016, one (1) day after the first surgery at the Lethem Hospital. Her second surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital was successful but she has never regained consciousness. Thelma Rebeiro is currently at the Lethem Hospital in that state of unconsciousness and with no additional intervention by the Health specialists and authorities, it seems apparent that Thelma Rebeiro, an indigenous Macushi has been left on her own to die.
The Amerindian Action Movement of Guyana (TAAMOG) is therefore kindly seeking your Excellency’s kind help and assistance for Thelma Rebeiro to have Brazilian medical treatment. The Amerindian Action Movement of Guyana (TAAMOG) is prepared to have the residents of Shulinab village sign a petition for Thelma Rebeiro’s Brazilian Medical treatment. Your Excellency, in the event an interview is required, TAAMOG is prepared to comply.
