Dear Editor;
I write this letter with frustration and no confidence in the Guyana Police Force (GPF). About two Sunday’s ago on the 18 of September, my mother was robbed at One Mile Wismar, Linden at gun point of her jewellery. She was out with a family member when a car stopped a couple feet away and a man put a gun to her head demanding her jewellery. However, she and the family member managed to obtain the license plate of the car. She then went to the Wismar police station where she made a formal report. The car was impounded and the driver was arrested. The driver admitted to being in the area at the time of the incident making a drop off and he also revealed the person he dropped off the night. The other man was also arrested and locked up for 72 hours. During that period, she was brought in to identify the man after which she left and was told by Sergeant George to return to the station at a later date. Upon her return, the men were freed and she was told the police did not have sufficient evidence and they will have to get advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). This is the police force that boasts about professionalism. I am not a lawman but my commonsense makes it clear to me if you obtain the car license in a robbery under arms that is a big lead to crack the case in finding the perpetrators. This incident could have been worst. We could have lost our lives. Is this the justice we have received from GPF? I am very frustrated in the justice system of this country
