Frank Maloney, former master at Queen’s College (QC), passed away on September 10, last, at the East Demerara Regional Hospital at around 20:20 hours.
He served 19 years as a teacher at the Berbice High School and 35 years at Queen’s college as a games master, French master and Geography master.
He retired in 2006 and spent the rest of his life enjoying good times with his family, sharing memories with them and his old students who would check up on him.
Frank was excited about his work and he loved helping people, anywhere that he could leave a trade mark, he leaves it. He never thought anything was too big or too difficult, he believed that with strength, determination and courage, you can achieve what you want and that is exactly what he instilled in his students and friends, his son said.
“He has left a significant impact on many lives; he encouraged many people to follow their dreams and aim high, he was their inspiration.
Former West Indies Cricketer now coach, Roger Harper, said that he was devastated over this death. “Mr. Maloney was the games master when I attended QC and he trained me every day; he was determined with his students. I owe him a lot, he was the reason that I am where I am today in my cricket career and in life as a whole, and I want to thank him, and my wish for him is to Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.”
He was also a member of the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church where he was baptized. The members of the church said that he was a role model. Lots of people looked up to him. His death is not going to be easy to get over anytime soon.
Frank leaves to mourn his wife, Carmen Maloney, three sons, Conrad, Keith and Kurt Maloney, grandchildren, sisters and brothers, other close relatives, the Principal, teachers, former and current students of Queen’s College and friends too numerous to mention.
The funeral for the late Frank Maloney will take place on Monday. Viewing of the body will be from 12:00 noon to 01:00pm at the Lykens Funeral Parlor on Norton Street, followed by the service at the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church on Church and Ornoque Streets, Georgetown, then to the Le Repentir Cemetery.
There will be a wake tonight in the vicinity of Queen’s College and tomorrow at the National Stadium, Providence.
