Dear Editor,
During the last election’s campaign, the Guyanese people listened with enthusiasm to Mr. David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo hoping and praying that they would be great leaders like their biblical’ s namesake. The APNU+AFC supporters had hoped that Mr. David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo would be great like King David and Prophet Moses in the Bible.
According to Jewish’s history, King David was the most brilliant leader of ancient Israel. King David gained fame as a youth when he killed the Philistine Goliath with his slingshot. Like King David, the Prophet Moses was the most important figure in Judaism. Moses parted the Red Sea to free his people and brought them the Ten Commandments on stone tablets. Editor, when the APNU+AFC supporters went (many of them for the first time) to the polling stations to vote, most were expecting that Mr. David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo would be great leaders like King David and Prophet Moses.
During the campaign, I remember them lifting up to the citizenry’s spirit and giving them hope by encouraging them to dream about the future good life. Like many others, I too, felt for the rhetoric hook, line and sinker. They promised the citizenry that if they vote for them that they would not have to worry about anything everything is going to be all right. They were singing and dancing to songs like:
Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right..
Rise up this mornin’,
Smile with the risin’ sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin’, (“This is my message to you-ou-ou: “).
The supporters, too, sang and danced to the propaganda songs. Today, many supporters regretted voting for them, because they believe that were scammed. They are worried and they don’t believe everything is not going to all right.
Many, many months later, the APNU +AFC supporters have come to realize that Mr. Granger and Nagamootoo are not great leaders like King David and Moses of the Bible that they were hoping for. As a result, the supporters are deeply disappointed, frustrated and angry with the APNU+AFC government.
Instead electing great leaders and deliverers like King David and the Prophet Moses, the supporters have elected a Pharaoh. The Bible tells us that Pharaohs was the leader who was responsible enslaving the Israelites in Egypt. Rather than being the supporters’ deliverer, the APNU+AFC supporters feel like they are being enslaved again.
Therefore, editor, in the upcoming 2020 general elections, who will be the citizens’ deliverer? I hope and pray that God will send us a true deliverer not the phony ones like (Mr. David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo) who deceived the populace and are no different from the PPP/C.
