West Demerara capitalized on a lackluster performance by a West Berbice to hammer them in two days
in the latest round of the Jaguars Franchise three days cricket competition played at the Cumberland Ground, East Canje.
West Berbice who batted first were blown away for a disappointing 30 in 25 overs in their first innings on a pitch which had no devil in it. Rishi Looknauth grabbing 4-10, Romario Shephard 3-11 and Raymon Reifer 2-5 bowling for West Demerara who had reached 276-5 over night on the small ground. Reifer had returned to blast a quick fire 119 off just 121 balls and was well supported by Akshya Persaud with 74 and Safraz Esau who made 53. Leon Andrews had taken 2-55, bowling for West Berbice.
On resumption West Demerara continue to pile on the pressure on the second day to declare on 368-9 with Travis Persaud 39(4×4), Kemar Savory 28(3×4, 1×6) and Rishi Looknauth 22 making the runs.
Bowling for West Berbice, Kevin Jawahir ended with 2-102, while Brandon Bess, Javid Karim and Andrews ended with 2 wickets with Steffon Adams claiming one.
Faced with a massive deficit of 338 runs, West Berbice continued their care free performance to be dismissed for 114 to give West Demerara the win by 224 runs. Jawahir 45(4×4,2×6) put up a fight with Andrew Dutchin17, Brenthnol Woolford14, Rafeal Estrdio 12 and Bess 11 reached double figures.
Bowling for West Demerara Akshya Persaud took 4-30 (match figures of 7-55) with Looknauth supporting with 3-45. There was one each for Reifer, Sheppard and Mahendra Dhanpaul. (Samuel Whyte)
