Relatives are yet to come forward to identify the remains of a man who was fished out of the Puruni River, Region Seven, two Tuesdays ago.
The body was decomposed and was pulled out of the water by police ranks, a few hours after it was first discovered floating.
Kaieteur News understands that passersby noticed the remains of a man floating in the river and subsequently informed the police.
The remains are now at Bartica.
Clairmonte David, who was at the scene, told this newspaper that when the remains were pulled from the river, no one could have identified the person and suggested that it might have been someone from another village.
The police are waiting on relatives to come forward before a post mortem examination is done. A police source said yesterday that if any relatives fail to come forward, then the government will bury the body.
