Men attempt to steal ornaments, cooler from house

Two men were yesterday released on $50,000 bail each, after they denied a charge of attempting to commit a felony, when they made an appearance before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Terry Persaud, 28, of Section B, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, and Dolchan Bisnauth, 40, of 1890 Section C, Tenth Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara are accused of attempting to steal an ice cooler and ornaments among other items – all valued $429,000 – property of Sunita Nawbatt on September 1, at Triumph , East Coast Demerara.
Police Prosecutor David Goodridge had no objections to the unrepresented men being released on bail. The prosecutor told the court that the men went into a yard located at the village mentioned in the charge and removed the items from one house and placed them in another house located in the said yard.
Persaud, during his address, denied that he attempted to steal the items. He claimed that he was given permission from his in-law to remove the items.
When asked by the Magistrate if he was ever charged before, Bisnauth told the Magistrate that he was convicted seven years ago on a narcotic charge. He said that he spent three years in jail for that offence. Magistrate Ally-Seepaul ordered the defendants to return to court on October 11, for reports.
