Stephanie Lawrie, 24, a Better Success poultry farmer, was yesterday charged with manslaughter

for the fatal stabbing of her 30-year-brother, Maxton Lawrie.
Bail was however granted in the sum of $400,000 after an application was made by Lawrie’s attorney.
But she has been ordered to report to the Charity Outpost on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Lawrie, who has a five-year-old daughter, appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
According to a police report, on the night of August 25, Maxton Lawrie, a rice farmer, came home under the influence of alcohol and started to verbally abuse his sister, Stephanie, their father, Maxwell, and his mother Toosamattie Lawrie.
The report added that Lawrie then punched his father in the face before venturing to his sister’s room.
The accused and her brother continued to argue.
The report also stated that Lawrie was armed with a knife and his sister pushed him away and he fell on the knife, sustaining a stab wound to the lower part of his abdomen.
He reportedly succumbed on the way to the Suddie Public Hospital.
Lawrie’s lawyer, Latchmin Dindyal, told Magistrate Scarce that his client has found herself in a unfortunate situation and pleaded for leniency, arguing that his client’s family is not financially

secured to post a hefty bail. Magistrate Scarce reminded Dindyal that he should be grateful that his client would be granted bail, considering the seriousness of the offence.
Dindyal also stated that his client would not be a flight risk and she is willing to lodge her passport.
Bail was eventually granted under the condition that Lawrie report to the Charity Outpost every Wednesday and Saturday.
The case would be called again on September 26 at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
