New Mosque of Alexander Village captured the Masjid an-Najm and Social Centre of
Albouystown annual Inter Jamaat seven-a-side football title after defeating La Bonne Intention of East Coast Demerara 2-0 in the final which was played on Sunday last at Albouystown.
Six teams competed in the tournament which included Masjid An-Najm & Social Center, Kitty, Masjid Muhammad on Mandela Avenue and Mocha Mosque. After pulsating action in the knockout stage, New Mosque and LBI advanced to the final and Kevin Griffith double strike handed New Mosque a hard fought victory. Third place went to the defending champions, Masjid An-Najm and Social Centre which is a community based project under the Guyana Islamic Trust.
Griffith was the tournament MVP, while Kenny Fraser of Masjid an-Najm was the highest goal scorer. Each player on the first, second and third place teams received a medal and a trophy. The organizers would like to thank the following sponsors; Mohamed Enterprise, Guyana Islamic Trust, Masjid an-Najm, Bettencourt’s of Durban Street among others.
