The relatives of three-year-old burn victim, Renia Rogers are seeking financial assistance to send the child overseas for medical treatment.
Renia was just 16 months old when she sustained serious burns to her scalp and her right side face.
This reportedly happened after a kerosene stove fell on her. However, although the little girl was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and discharged, her father says her burns have still not healed.
The child currently lives with her father, Rol Rogers at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara. He shared that he has been trying to garner enough funds for his daughter to seek medical attention overseas.
Rogers said that at the interim his daughter has a special nurse that comes to their home and dresses her wounds.
According to Mr. Rogers, his family has been working closely with the Government through the Ministry of Social Protection to get Renia the assistance she needs.
The father is an Air Condition Technician but said that the work is seasonal.
According to previous reports, the girl’s mother had told Kaieteur News that she was cleaning salted fish when the stove fell and burned the little girl.
“I have a chair in the kitchen that I does normally sit on to make sure Renie don’t come in. I was cooking in a pressure pot and I thought she was sleeping so I went at the sink and was cleaning salt fish when I heard the whistle on the pressure pot blew off,” the mother of two recalled.
According to the woman, when she turned around, she saw that the kerosene stove had fallen on her daughter and there were flames in her hair.
From all indications, the mother said that her daughter had walked out of the bedroom and climbed into the chair without her knowing.
“It seems like when the whistle blew off, she raise up to see what it was and the stove fell on her,” the woman assumed. The older Rogers said she immediately rushed her daughter to the hospital where she is still a patient.
Persons desirous of rendering assistance can contact Rol Rogers on (592) 675-0076.
