: Chief Labour Officer of the Ministry of Social Protection, Charles Ogle (Right) handing over a certificate to a graduate.
“I urge you to seize the opportunities provided to you with one hand and with the other, seek to develop your communities, which in turn will have an impact on your Region and ultimately your country.
“The impetus is on all our youth and citizens to always seek the development of Guyana and to make us proud.”
These were the sentiments expressed by the Chief Labour Officer of the Ministry of Social Protection, Charles Ogle, at Mahaicony last weekend. The Board of Industrial Training (BIT) graduated 206 trainees on the occasion.
BIT, which falls under the Ministry of Social Protection, continues to make significant strides in the area of youth development via skills training. The graduation held at the Mahaicony Technical and Vocational Training Centre saw participation from the Ministry, parents, Regional officials, other dignitaries and well-wishers.
Ogle stated that it was an honour to address the gathering which he said, comprised of determined individuals who would have remained steadfast in their quest for personal development.
“These persons sacrificed many a night to be able to obtain a skill and to contribute to their personal development, and the development of their families.

“These persons are now equipped to join the labour force with the completion of their Training Programmes in the areas of metalwork engineering, carpentry, masonry, fitting and machining, heavy duty equipment operation, electrical installation and refrigeration, automotive electrical, information technology, welding and fabrication and supervisory management.”
Ogle added that this year, the Ministry will be graduating over 1,600 persons countrywide, from various BIT Programmes. These persons, he said, would have undertaken numerous skill sets ranging from Engineering and Building Trades, Information and Communication Technology, Forestry, Home Economics and Health Services.
He added that the critical thrust of the programmes has never wavered. It has been supported and guided by the government to ensure that the necessary interventions are being achieved and guided to ensure maximum benefit to the youth and burgeoning labour market.
BIT has also been the pioneer of a Heavy Duty Equipment Operation Programme since 2009. This Programme has generated skills needed for the mining sector in many communities countrywide, and will continue in Mahaicony this year.
Another major focus of BIT has been the generation of employable skills for differently abled groups including deaf and visually impaired persons, he added.
